ETB Training – Leitrim

SOLAS is the new over-arching Further Education and Training Authority in Ireland. It is responsible for funding, planning and co-ordinating training and further education programmes.

Former VEC’s were amalgamated into 16 Education and Training Boards.

When FAS was disbanded, FAS training centres became part of the new ETB structure.

Therefore, FAS training and employment programmes such as apprenticeships, training programmes, early school leavers programmes, online courses in the FÁS e-college, community training workshops, and vocational awards are now being provided under the new ETB Structure.  Details of this can be accessed online or through your local Intreo office.

Apprenticeships

An apprenticeship is a mix of classroom-based training as well as on-the-job training with an employer. The apprenticeship takes four years in total to complete. Examples of trade apprenticeships include: electrician, carpenter, fitter, plumber and many more.

Short courses

Short courses are shorter training programmes with certification to assist people to re-enter the labour market. The courses lead to FETAC minor awards at levels 4, 5, and 6 on the National Framework of Qualifications.

Traineeships

A typical traineeship lasts between 15 and 59 weeks and combines a mixture of classroom-based training with on the job work experience. Traineeships are offered in fields such as technical and machinery, service industry, administration and business, IT, sales and sports and leisure.

E-college

Provides online courses for distance learning for those who wish to upgrade or acquire new skills. There is no fee for unemployed persons. A variety of subjects are available Business & IT, Personal Development and Health and Safety.
